Dog proof, March 30, 2011 This review is from: Shakespeare Two-Piece Light Action Ugly Stik Spinning Rod (Sports) I left my light action 5'6" spinning rod in the living room when I went to the supermarket. I came back to find that my 80 lb german shephard was using it as a chew toy. Aside from the lure being chewed off(hooks still there thank god) and some of the foam hand grip being torn up the rod still lives! Even with teeth marks all over the rod, I can still bend it in half without it breaking. Its a tough little rod!

I,ve looked this rod over from tip to butt and I can see none of the quality control problems that have plagued some models of Ugly Stiks over the past couple of years. I've gotten used to seeing their blanks glued into the reel seats crooked, guides out of alignment, blanks warped and just generally looking like no one cared much about quality or fine details. This particular rod I ordered is a good example of what can be done when they want to. The fit and finish on this rod would be acceptable on the highest priced rods. Congratulations Shakespeare, I hope we see this on all your rods from now on. I love the action on this light rod and it doesn't seem as heavy as I expected an original style Ugly Stik to be. I don't know how they could improve on it except to also offer it in a one piece design. I've heard some complaints about the reel seats being a weak spot on Ugly Stiks. This is not so. Okay rod, November 1, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Shakespeare Two-Piece Light Action Ugly Stik Spinning Rod (Sports) I have always loved ugly stiks i probably have more than 6 of there rods. They claim that there rods will never brake, which i believe 100%. This however does not mean there guides and reel seats wont. I believe this rod can handle way bigger fish than it is designed too. I have only had one problem with there rods and after this one there is two. I have always had a problem with there guides, and especially there guide inserts, they always fall out mostly the tip guide but for the price you cant expect high end guides. With this particular rod i have found another problem, i made a trip to arizona from california with the rod in the bed of the truck with the reel on it. Due to my huge trust in these rods i didnt think twice about putting it in there. Upon inspection of the rod not only was i missing a guide insert from fishing, but now after the drive the reel seat is cracked and will not hold a reel as well.
